Christmas is a magical time of year irrespective of age and Christmas at Kingsmount is no exception. At the end of November the celebrations begin as we decorate the home with twinkling lights, beautiful baubles and lots of colourful tinsel. Our wonderful activities team are never sort of ideas and the residents and staff enjoy arts and crafts, carol concerts from local schools and choirs, Christmas fairs and of course a pantomime! Whether shopping for a new Christmas outfit or helping to write cards to loved ones, the staff at Kingsmount make time for all residents amongst the celebrations to ensure that Christmas is as special now as it was as a child.

We are very thankful to the Galmpton Male Voice Choir who visited us at Kingsmount last week and kicked off our festive celebrations with a wonderful afternoon of traditional carols. We hope that they enjoyed themselves as much as we did!

We have now completed the opening up of the TV Lounge into the side garden with french doors and a ramp leading down to the lawn (in the hope that we might have a summer some time soon). The garden itself has been much tidied up and enclosed for privacy and is now greatly recovered from the building works - but if anyone (friend or resident) has green fingers, now is the time to let us know.

We have now completed the refurbishment of the main bathroom and the building of the new one a new one. The two new baths (at around £7000 each, yes, really) are of diferent types.

One is a full length spa bath for use by those who wish to bathe themselves but complete with a full hydraulic riser for assisted bathing without risk of back strain to the staff. Entry to the bath is by climbing in, as normal, for the able bodied or with a built-in hydraulic seat lift for those requiring assistance.

The other is a side entry bath for those who prefer, or need, an easy access, tilting bath which provides a comfortable seated position and a full spa treatment.

This brings the bathing facilities up to the same standard as sister home Mount Olivet.

All our new en-suites are now in place - two of them large enough to provide private shower facilities.

This will leave only three rooms of thirty without en-suites.

Using the wasted space in the hallway leading to the new garden lounge, we have created create a small space with bookshelves and a writing desk.

Second-hand books in good condition will be welcomed.
